MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

My interest and motivation towards teaching is driven by the belief that raising a well educated generation is the corner stone for the development of any nation and civilized human beings. I believe that being a teacher I can disseminate the knowledge I gain more effectively to a vast number of children who are unique in their cognitive capacity and mental abilities who could contribute towards building the nation. It is a great pleasure for me to contribute towards the cognitive and intellectual development of these students by creating a conducive and a favorable teaching and learning atmosphere in the class room.

I teach my students Principles of Accounts as the main objective being through a positive learning experience inculcating into their minds the curriculum objectives set by the Cambridge O’level syllabus and building the entire personality of the learner. Through the explanation of fundamental accounting concepts, conventions, assumptions and principles the idea of Accounting as a subject is gradually established in the minds of my students. Their real world experiences are brought into the classroom atmosphere and evaluated and connected to the basic principles of the subject.

As with the understanding of the individual uniqueness of students it is important to acknowledge that learning strategies differ widely to each other and matching one or few teaching strategies to cater the students are not an easy task. It is further complicated due to the students’ differing background and learning preferences and varying levels of interests and motivations. The challenge for me is to make all students engage in the classroom learning activities and to make the classroom atmosphere interesting to all students.

As behavioral learning theory offers a number of principles that could benefit, if appropriately applied, various levels of classroom management and teachings environments. Likewise, cognitive learning theories portray brain-based research regarding memory systems and active processing of intellectual operations. Throughout my experience in the classroom I believe my students are best suited with the active and cooperative learning strategies. In my teachings students are required to discuss concepts and principles in groups and work out related problems with the active interaction of group members. They are also given opportunities for individual works as their home assignments which could assess their individual abilities I further believe that motivation and reinforcement strategies are necessary for students to participate actively in the lesson.

As I believe the role of the teacher is to facilitate the students in learning and to guide the students to the proper path in learning, it is always important for me to have an understanding of effectiveness of my teaching. Observations of my leading teacher and his constructive feedback play a vital role for my personal development in the field. Moreover, my students’ scores in the public examination determine the effectiveness of my teaching and their examination reports convey invaluable information which assists me to identify the areas in need of improvements.
